Meal Teams
Reviewing this information before your meal time will help a great deal (sharing with all meal team members).
ORM receives no government funds; we are supported by individuals and churches. Consequently, the food and materials meal teams provide benefits ORM with about $80 for each of our two large weekly meals (includes food, paper goods, water, etc.) which is more than $8000 a year.
We're grateful for this huge blessing and should be a cheerful experience. If it is not cheerful, then speak to Ellie about what we might do. ORM (and the Lord) wants you blessed not burdened. Some meal teams have a box/container prepared for their meal day. They ensure all supplies are there and replenish as needed before the next meal time.

Arrival, Parking, & Entering
Arriving about 15 minutes before the meal time works well. Food will get cold if it arrives too early. We begin meals at the expected/scheduled time.
Meal Teams can park in the alley, close to the ORM fence so as to allow plenty of room for cars to pass by) and enter through the alley gate.
Meal teams that choose to park on G or Church street can enter through the right gate rather than the alley gate.
Meal teams who choose to serve inside can enter through the front door. Meal teams decide if/when they want to serve in the kitchen rather than outside, usually related to bad weather.
Meal teams decide on the general setup, your teams responsibilities, and how you want the serving handled (based on ORM guides).

Meal Teams Provide
Even though ORM has supplies, the meal team can replenish what we provide on our working carts, which helps decrease our meal time expenses (i.e. add to plastic utensils and napkins).
Food for about 40 (hearty servings), when attendance dramatically changes meal teams will be notified to adjust the amount. Meals should have a balance/variety (e.g. main dish, salad, vegetable, rice and pasta are filling, canned fruit or jello salad). Whole fruit like apples, oranges, etc. are difficult to eat without teeth so we do not recommend fresh fruit as part of a meal unless cut-up.
Condiments required for the meal: butter for bread, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, hot sauce, salad dressing etc.
Serving utensils for all the meal’s food (spoons, knives, cake cutters, tongs, etc)
Disposable main dish plates (10" better size for our large meals)
Disposable dessert size plates (6")
Disposable bowls if meal has soup, chili, etc.
Disposable eating utensils and napkins. Even though our meal cart has these supplies, the meal team's supply helps us keep replenished.
Paper towels for serving area cleanup
Bottled water minimum 48, in hot weather they are grateful for more
Flip top take-out containers for meals to go
Take-out soup containers if part of your meal (paper coffee cups with lids work too)
NOTE: Our friends very much enjoy "home made" bread and desserts so meal teams are welcome to make/bring your own. ORM receives grocery store donations so we always have bread and dessert available. As well, in addition to bottled water, meal teams from time to time bring some different beverages to share (e.g. lemonade) - not an expectation.

ORM Provides
There are two working carts, one with meal team supplies like latex gloves, etc., kept in the corner by the back stairs. The other cart has supplies for our friends like plastic utensils, napkins, and is pulled out to the left of the serving area. A third food cart is used for breads, desserts, etc. and is directly next to the left end of the serving tables.
Bread and desserts
Name badges (stick on); all meal team please wear
Disinfectant wipes for meal team hands (not for cleaning tables)
Plastic/latex gloves for serving
Salt and pepper
Plastic bags for placing to go meals, etc.
Cleaning cloths
Cleaning spray for tables
Broom and large dust mop
Dog food for our friends dogs
Help and support, which includes handling behavior issues. Meal team members should notify the Lead Volunteer if something goes unnoticed (e.g. unacceptable language, arguing, etc.)
Our volunteers and friends do the cleanup and empty the trash
General Meal Time Guide
1. Meal team members please make and wear name tags so our friends may get to know you on a personal level. When appropriate meal team members can walk around, have conversations and see if there is anything they may get our friends (e.g. water, dessert). Greet everyone with a smile and their name if you know it (Lead Volunteers will call all our friends by name so you'll be able to learn them as well).
2. Serving occurs on the long table, meal team stands and serves behind the table looking out at our friends table area; meal team's right to left (i.e. start with plates and main dish on the right/west side of table).
3 Serving begins after prayer (usually led by Lead Volunteer and requiring all participants to gather near the serving area to pray together-prayer waits until everyone has joined the group).
4. ONLY Meal team volunteers help serve (disinfect hands and/or wear food serving gloves); standing in back of serving tables at each item; when ready to serve . For health reasons, no one else but the meal team should be touching any of the food to be served.
5. Small amounts should be given at first serving - they can return for seconds when they finish their first.
6. Meal team ASK if they want a food BEFORE you place it on their plate.
7. One plate for one person; no one gets more than 1 plate - they are suppose to eat on site.
8. Seconds should also be small amounts of whatever food item they want. It is possible there are some large eaters who may return a 3rd time, we have no limit and usually this is not an overwhelming issue.
9. Lead volunteer will decide when "to-go" meals are available and will announce. This depends on how many friends have arrived and eaten; must be at least 30 minutes after the meal time. Preference is to wait until 15 minutes before CLOSING to announce "to-go" because then the meal team can prepare to-go containers for those who are present and with the remaining food for those who may arrive late. ONE to-go per person.
10. Even though it may seem many friends leave before closing time (i.e. after they eat) the meal team is expected to be available until at least 5 minutes before closing time because often some of our friends do arrive near the end of our meal time.
AFTER THE MEAL Condiments, large amounts of left over food and/or desserts can be put on the food cart and ORM volunteers will store appropriately. ORM and our friends do the clean-up. Meal teams just need to gather their items to take with them.
